The restoration and the creation of the museum,begun in 1999 and not yet completed, have allowed some observations of the buildings that make up the complex, their articulation and the distribution of space. The following limited archaeological investigations were carried out, clarifying several particular situations: – During work in the areas of the Markets of Trajan for the Museum of the Imperial Fora, archaeological investigations were undertaken on the beaten-earth floors located in the two halls situated at the sides of the Large Hemicycle; – A limited excavation investigated of the southern tract of the via Biberatica overlooking the via Salita del Grillo, between the entrance to the area and the large arch that passes over the ancient road; – Other excavations were carried out below the pavement level of the tabernae that appear on the northern tract of the via overlooking via Quattro Novembre, of interest for its post-antique transformations; – Work on the entrance to the Markets of Trajan on via Quattro Novembre offered the opportunity for study and graphic reconstruction of both the facade of the Large Hall on this side, and mezzanine on the western side of the Hall; – Finally, a total examination of the original paving of the Markets of Trajan was conducted during the creation of services and the repaving of the rooms.
