Summary (English)

  • The monument, situated in a strategic position at the junction of the Flumendosa with the Flumeneddu (82 meters above sea level), was a guard post on one of the most important roads of central Sardegna and surely formed part of a larger defensive system that contained many other fortresses.

The nuraghe, in built of schist, was constructed with quadrangular blocks positioned in regular lines, set in a layer of yellowish clay. It comprises a principle tower (tower 1) a nearby area (area B) linked to the first by a short curtain wall. In tower A the wall becomes thickest at the west side measuring around 2 meters. The diameter of the circumference of the base of tower A is around 9 meters, its surving height is around 7 meters. Area B is preserved, on the west side, for 6 courses restino on the natural rock, and has a diamater of around 8 meters. In the wall revetment around tower A are visible various voids that must have served for the joists of a wooden loft. On the exterior of the west side, several corner stones perfectly cut to a “T” were present, which must have belonged to the crown of the same tower. The excavation was extended and has brought to light, up until now, 63 stratigraphic units.

At the northwest lies a powerful rectilinear bastion that starts from the precipice at the north and is interrupted, at the present state of our knowledge, in conjunction with the connection between the two towers. Other tracts of walls form the upper terrace onto which opens the entrance of tower A; others still form the terrace oriented to the south west.
