Summary (English)
Roadworks funded by Italian Protocol have uncovered cluster of catacombs lying under road surface, being part of visible catacombs cutinto rock-face.
This site had been previously documented by Capt C Zammit and covered by a road. After re-discovery a team of archaeologists cleaned the structure from superficial deposits that had not been cleared in the early 20th century. Several tomb types are represented in this complex, including arcosolia, window tombs and loculi. The site also contains a triclinia/mensa (agape) that is rock cut into the bedrock with a drain.
Currently the site is being funded by a EU project between Mosta local council and Heritage Malta with Sicilian counterparts. Amongst the aims is the penning out of a management plan for this site.
This catacomb complex continues in a straight line alignment into private property.
