Summary (English)
Plăviceni Monastery, in Teleorman county, is a representative monument of Wallachian architecture from the 17th century. It was built by Dragomir, a great boyar and his wife, Elena, a relative to Prince Matei Basarab. Initially containing an imposing belfry, massive precinct walls, a trefoil church, the abbey house and monastic buildings, this architectural complex became a pathetic ruin. The excavations started in 1995 aimed to offer the architects the necessary information for the development of the restoration project regarding the precinct walls, the buildings of the complex; the chronology of the construction stages; the occupation levels; the existence of the cemetery inside and outside the precinct walls.
