The excavations at Balta Sarată identified the upper part of the Balta Sarată I horizon. This level contains both Vinca A and early Vinca B1 materials. This horizon is extremely important for the evolution of the Vinca culture because it explains the beginning of early Vinca sites and also establishes connections with the discoveries from Transylvania. The Balta Sarata site is located on the Caransebeş – Haţeg – Simeria course (route) and therefore connected with the very important Vinca sites of Tărtăria, Romosu and the ones located on the basin of the Mureş River. The excavations allow us to reconstruct several Vinca houses. We also identified special rituals connected with the building and destruction of houses. The grinding stones and looms found in House 18 are in connection with the sacred numerology of the number 7.
