Summary (English)
Archaeological researches relating to the Alburnus Maior National Research Programme, the 2003 campaign, began on the 26th of May 2003. The research area for the Deva Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization was settled on sector Ţarina. As some historical sources mention the existence here of important Roman structures and finds, we developed a complex research, comprising 38 excavation units. This area was fully excavated through many trenches and, as a result, seven Roman graves and some archaeological structures were discovered. The archaeological finds from graves M 1 – M 7 are grave goods usually found in Roman graveyards. The largest part of the pottery is local, and we can say that this group of graves date to the 2nd century A.D. Archaeological researches relating to the Alburnus Maior National Research Programme, the 2003 campaign, continued in October. The research area for the Deva Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization was settled on the property of Mr. Gligor Viorel. All trenches opened on this property, as it can be seen on the excavation plan, provided data for evaluation. In fact, the whole excavation revealed a significant density of graves from the Roman period and also some mediaeval structures overlapping an ancient gold mine. These 21 graves discovered until now offer a complex image over the Roman graveyard at Ţarina, the main area of which might be in the sector excavated by the Deva Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilization team. The richness of some graves and the complexity of the finds recommend the continuation of this research in the next campaigns.
