In this site three tumuli of a cremation cemetery were investigated. The rite consists of the arrangement of the offering objects near the burned bones, charcoal and ashes brought from a funerary stake near the cemetery. The cemetery at Vârtoapele – Vârtopu – Ciuperceni has to be dated to the Early Bronze Age, as it has a level from the final Glina – Verbiţa – Ostrovu Corbului (Glina IV) – Bele Crkva – Priboi horizon. However, we also identified elements of the Bubani III – Vecina – Ostrovu Corbului type (dated to the post Glina site and before sites like Gornea-Orleşti).
