The archaeological research at Ernei was initiated because of a field research and was followed by a detailed systematic investigation. The areas thus excavated comprise six sections and four quadrates and the materials retrieved pertain to the following cultures: Wietenberg, Noua, the Dark, Mortised Ceramic culture and Sântana de Mureş. In all, the number of pits is 29 (most of which were destined for provisions or clay extraction). We also recovered ten kilns, but unfortunately no trace of a building was detected nearby. In an area strongly damaged by the quarry, at the clay level, two circular pits appeared, out of which one proved to be of great archaeological and historical interest. We consider that the interdisciplinarity of the research in this site, materialized through the collaboration with several institutions (the Archaeological Institute in Budapest, the “1st of December 1918” University in Alba-Iulia, the “Babeş–Bolyai” University in Cluj-Napoca and the Medicine and Pharmacy University in Târgu-Mureş) will highly contribute to the turning into account and the understanding of the successive civilizations discovered at Ernei.
