The site lies about 2.5 km north-east from the city of Babadag, on the edge of the lake by the same name, about 30 m left of the Tabana river mouth. The settlement inhabited in ancient times used to stretch over a promontory with a perfect view upon the lake and the area currently occupied by the city. The strategic position is strengthened also by the presence of the valley that must have been floodable and marshy in the past, and allowing the access only by the north-west part. The access became harder and harder due to the construction of a fortification made up of a trench and a vallum surrounding it. Currently only a narrow segment directed towards NW-SE is extant, about 200 m long and 30 m wide, and the cliff is over 20 m high. The ever quicker sinking of the settlement is determined by the increase in the Babadag Lake waters cutting into the loess promontory massif. The increase in the Babadag Lake waters due to this year’s waters and the building of the dams of the lake during the ‘60s determined a quick sinking of the settlement, as this year a falling of about 10 m2 was registered.
