Summary (English)

  • Construction work in the centre of the modern city of Kruja revealed a medieval tomb, the emergence of which was followed by rescue archaeological excavation. The tomb was considerably damaged by the construction work, which caused the de-contextualisation of the grave goods. It is a cist grave constructed of local tufa slabs. The sides are aligned with vertical slabs and the base is made of stones and mortar. Its dimensions are: 2, 40 m of length, 0, 90 m of width and 0, 62 m in depth and it is west – east orientated. The body is placed in supine position with stretched arms and it is west – east aligned.
The grave contained a pottery vessel (Oinochoe), a bronze fibula, an iron bracelet and an iron circlet dating to the 6th – 7th centuries A.D. Based on the grave type of construction, its finds and burial rituals, it dates to the 6th – 7th centuries A.D.
