Summary (English)

  • In via Torre, in an area adjacent to one where circa ten years ago the rooms of a workshop with bronze moulds and metal working residue were found, the remains of at least two domus were brought to light. Both had small internal gardens with fountains and their first construction phase dated to the end of the Republican period. The opus signinum floors with crustae date to this period, whilst the polychrome mosaic floors were part of the restructuring undertaken at the beginning of the 2nd century A.D. The sequence of phases was clearly visible in one of the gardens, where the original layout with a semicircular pool was obliterated by rubble and dumped materials datable to the 1st century A.D. At the beginning of the following century the garden appeared to be crossed on a diagonal by a small brick built channel and decorated with plants and shrubs; in fact, the soil covering the rubble layer contained numerous flowerpots.

South of the domus was a road 3 m wide with a sidewalk and wall-parapet, from which all the basoli, except one found in situ, had been removed and were found in heaps or scattered around.
