Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF KRASTEVICH (Mitko Madzharov – m_madjarov@abv.bg, Dimitrinka Tancheva) The settlement occupied an area of c. 1 ha. The two longitudinal rooms of Building A were explored. The wall between room No. 1 and room No. 2 is preserved up to 1.10 m in height. A square stone, probably a base of a wooden post, was found in room No. 1. The room had an inner staircase leading to the second floor. A forge hearth containing bronze melts and iron slag, 1 m in diameter, was discovered on the floor. A fragmentary terracotta tub, measuring 1.12 m by 0.67 m and 0.25 m in depth, was found close to the hearth and near the drain. A second forge hearth containing bronze melts and iron slag, 1 m in diameter, was discovered in room No. 3. Two buildings were partly explored to the east of Building A. Building B has a wall 60 cm in width, preserved up to 30 cm in height. Its floor was covered with stone slabs. A room measuring 4.40 m by 7.30 m was explored in the northeastern part of Building C. An entrance existed in the northeastern end of the room and later it was walled up. There is a buttress on the outer side of the southwestern corner. The floor was covered with stone slabs. The finds from the archaeological excavations include sherds (c. 70% belong to imported Greek pottery: Chian, Thasian and Rhodian amphorae and black-gloss vessels) and a fragment of small terracotta cult table. A gold bar, 0.8 gr. in weight, and a silver tetradrachm of Ainos minted in 430 – 410 BC were found in Building C.
