Summary (English)
The prehistoric site of Ponte Molino, situated on a terrace delimiting to the east a large ancient riverbed, was identified over twenty years ago and has been the object of numerous surface surveys which collected hundreds of flint implements and thousands of waste fragments. The finds attest the long occupation of the site: from sporadic occupation during the Mesolithic period to a Neolothic settlement and a better defined Copper Age settlement.
In the latter period, Ponte Molino constitutes one of the rare Eneolithic sites identified in the south eastern area of the territory of Mantua. A small trial trench identified the presence of a defensive ditch which, although not completely investigated, produced numerous pottery and lithic finds. These seemed to document a very late phase of the Copper Age which appeared to represent the passage into the early Bronze Age.
