Summary (English)
The object is the interpretation of the frescoes found on the so-called “Arieti tomb” near the Esquiline gate (arch of Gallienus ) in Rome. This was a tomb (a monumental exedra according to an alternative interpretation) in which a triumphal scene was represented, with a quadriga preceded by six lectors. This detail suggests that it was a praetorian triumph, a fact which greatly reduces the number of possibilities regarding the identity of its beneficiary. The depiction of a crucified man (this interpretation seems to prevail over other hypotheses) is of particular interest. The author sees in this the torture of Atilius Regulus, thus identifying Atilius Calantinus as the man who commissioned the monument.
