Summary (English)

  • At Brancaleone the surveys undertaken annually from 2005 onwards have led to the identification and preliminary study of a number of late Republican-imperial settlements. situated on the left bank of the Spartivento torrent. The sites were residential (above all the villa in the locality of Stracozzara-Muraglie) or for the storage of dried foodstuffs (as is the case of the terraced site in the locality of Monumenti-Lanzo, organised as a deposit of dolia set into the ground in parallel rows and planned in 2007: cf. Cordiano et al. 2007).

Moreover, along the right bank of the Bruzzano torrent a number of Greek sites (archaic-classical and /or late Hellenistic) were found and have undergone preliminary study. Amongst the latter, the plateau in the locality of Serro Rochetta, identified in 2007 during the survey of the torrent mouth, was more carefully examined in October 2008. The visible tops of the perimeter walls, built of pisè, were planned and the topsoil partially cleaned from the latter in two small sectors. These operations revealed a pressed clay surface at the base of the walls, dating to the late Hellenistic period, and revealed the site’s potential. Further in depth investigations will be undertaken on the site.
