In the territory of Liternum, north-east of the ancient city, inside the present NATO. base, archaeological investigations were undertaken prior to the building of new structures for the American air-force. A small group of burials were identified, datable to between the 3rd-4th century A.D., associated with some grave goods (the typical small jug with nail). The burials were probably related to the late antique phase of a rustic villa probably which stood in an area still to be explored, but that was indicated by the presence of a well.
