Summary (English)

  • The excavation in the locality of Torricelle uncovered numerous burials thus providing data regarding the occupation and life of the necropolis. The earliest burials dated to the early to mid Orientalising period, with large rectangular graves. Two of these, with tumuli of limestone blocks, were of note due to the quality and number of the grave goods. In one of the two the deceased had, to one side, an iron sword with bone handle and a bronze basin and on the other side the pottery assemblage comprising jars, cups and jugs, both in impasto and plain ware. On the body were found a series of bronze fibulae and one of silver. The other tomb, cut by the previous one, was that of a woman. She lay on a funeral bed, wearing a dress that was richly decorated with amber and glass beads, with personal ornaments such as iron and bronze fibulae and an amber ring. Lastly, she was surrounded by a large number of impasto vases and a bronze basin containing animal bones (other faunal remains probably from small pigs or boar, were at the base of the vases).
