    Summary (English)

    • The Mora Cavorso grotto opens at 715 m a.s.l. in the upper Aniene valley, in the territory of Jenne. The research begun in 2006 has identified abundant occupation evidence datable to the later part of the Early Neolithic period. Several levels relating to the Final Neolithic and one horizon dating to the Middle Bronze Age were also investigated.

The Early Neolithic evidence lay concretionary in two distinct chambers. In that defined as “lower” the remains of at least 20 individuals were chaotically amassed together with sporadic archaeological material. In the “upper” chamber a burial was identified, the skeleton was partially articulated and some presumed grave goods were present: a stone axe, an ovoid vase with pierced lug handles at the rim, a fragment of a decorated vase and two flint geometrics. C14 dating was undertaken on a human bone from the lower chamber: 6405±35 BP (L3504), calibrated 1σ 5472-5314 B.C. Readings are being taken of the cave’s chemical-physical parameters, temperature, relative humidity and “pH”. Particular interest is being taken in the study of the analytical characteristics of the stalagmite layer which incorporates the human remains in the lower and upper chambers.
