Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF GEORGI DOBREVO (Krasimir Nikov – k_nikov29@yahoo.com, Daniela Stoyanova) The rescue excavations of Dana Bunar 3 Site continued. The exploration of the western wing of the ditch dug into the ground was concluded. It is oriented southeast – northwest and is 1.30 – 1.80 m in width and 20 – 60 cm in depth. The exposed length of the ditch is c. 41 m. The ditch was filled with earth mixed with charcoal and fragments of burned clay, and rarely animal bones, fragments of zoomorphic terracotta figurines and flint artifacts. Several fragments of Thracian wheel-made grey ware allow us to date the ditch to the beginning of the Late Iron Age in the 5th century BC. The presence of Karanovo IV pottery could be a result from reusing materials from the neighboring Dana Bunar 2 Neolithic settlement. The eastern wing of the ditch was explored. It is 1.50 – 2 m in width and 50 cm in depth and is oriented north – south. The exposed length of the ditch is 17.50 m. It was filled with earth mixed with Thracian sherds dated at the end of the Early and the beginning of the Late Iron Age in the 6th – 5th centuries BC. Two pits were cut when the ditch was dug into the ground. The pits have cylindrical shape and are 70 cm in depth. They contain single pieces of charcoal and Thracian sherds of the Early Iron Age.
