ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS OF A TUMULUS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF VARNENTSI (Emil Petkov – emo_paunov@abv.bg) Three tumuli are registered on the territory of the Tutrakan municipality, near the villages of Staro Selo, Varnentsi and Tsarev Dol: Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively. A geophysical survey of tumulus No. 1 was carried out. No monumental structures were discovered in the tumular embankment. A geodetic survey of tumuli Nos. 2 and 3 was carried out. Archaeological excavations of tumulus No. 2 were carried out. Part of the eastern half of the tumulus was explored. No burial constructions, or other structures and archaeological finds were discovered.
