Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF EZERO (Veselin Ignatov – ignatov_v@abv.bg) The necropolis consisted of six tumuli, two of which were explored in 1950. A cremation burial of the Roman period was discovered then. Nowadays four tumuli are preserved. A settlement of the Roman period is located to the north of the tumular necropolis. Tumulus No. 1 is 6 m in height and 29 – 33 m in diameter. Treasure-hunters had destroyed a wagon from the Roman period close to the southeast of the tumulus, which was the reason for the rescue archaeological excavations. During the exploration of the clandestine excavation, the borders of a partly preserved ancient pit were outlined. It measures 4.10 m by 2 m and is 50 cm in depth. Traces from wheels and other iron parts of the wagon were registered in the earth. Bones from horses, sherds, part of an iron chain, a fragmentary bronze appliqué of horse-trappings and part of the hook of a horse-collar were found. The iron parts of the wagon were placed in the northern part of the pit. The remains of the two horses were discovered close to the southern and the eastern wall of the pit. The horses were oriented to the south and to the west.
