Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS IN DUROSTORUMDRASTAR (Georgi Atanasov – geoatal@abv.bg) The excavations of the southern fortification wall, 3.60 m wide and built in the beginning of the 6th century AD, continued. Remains from a building of the 19th century were discovered in Sector West. It was constructed from reused ashlars of the fortification wall, some of them 90 cm by 50 cm by 40 cm in size. A wall of a dugout of the 11th century, faced with stones, was discovered. An occupation layer and three midden pits with material from the 11th century were explored. The finds included a lead seal and a marble plate with an inscription in Mediaeval Greek. The foundation of a wall was discovered, dug out into the occupation layers of the 4th and the 6th century AD and built after the beginning of the 7th century.
