Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS IN SOFIA (Metodi Daskalov – m.m.daskalov@mail.bg, Snezhana Goryanova, Katya Trendafilova) The site is situated at c. 20 m to the east of the Early Christian church complex located in the vicinity of Serdica, which was explored in 2000 – 2001. The sondages covered an area of c. 330 sq. m. The strata in the sondages were badly destroyed by modern building activities. The materials, which were found, originate from the neighboring church complex. The finds include sherds from kitchen pottery and dolia, fragments of building ceramics and terracotta water pipes, three bronze fibulae and a copper bracelet. The finds date to the 5th – 6th centuries AD. The three fibulae date after the beginning of the 6th century AD and are synchronous to the last occupation phase of the church complex, when houses were built between its walls and a pottery production was set up. The last occupation phase dates in AD 575 – 605.
