Summary (English)

  • During the excavations was revealed an area of 1100 sq. m on the hill, which is 330m. high.
Some constructions remains with finds were covered to a depth of 0,6 m. The largest among them is a semicircle ditch containing Hallstatt period materials. The ditch was oriented north-east — south-west, and is2 m in width, 42 m in length(within the excavation trench) and 0,8 m in depth. In the fill of the ditch were found 30 ceramic fragments, two of which are dated to the Eneolithic period, and other to the Early Iron Age.
2 m westward from the eastern outer side of the ditch was revealed a smaller ditch (width 0,2 — 0,4 m).This smaller ditch has straight walls and a flat bottom, depth — 0,2 — 0,3 m. In it were found stones and some ceramiс fragments. According to the author, the ditch supported a palisade formed by tree-trunks.).
A similar construction was revealed 7 m northward from the previous ditch. Here there were found postholes0,4 m in diameter which may have served as gate elements.
In the central part of the excavation area were revealed traces of postholes (0,2—0,3 m in diameter, 0,15—0,35 m in depth). Some of them lie in straight lines and right angles that indicated the wattle-and-daub architecture.
The outer side of the east-west ditch contained no constructions and finds.
The site thus consists of a fortified settlement with the ditch, the palisade, and the entrance in the central part. The ceramics found there were similar to the Early Hallstatt period materials from the sites of the Ukrainian Prykarpattya (the Ukrainian Transarpathian region), in particular those from Bykiv. This site is dated by C14 to the 10th cent. BC. Serednya I may also belong to the 10th cent. BC.Flints of the Upper Paleolithic period (Sviders`ka culture), Funnel Beaker culture ceramics (4000 — 2000 BC), and Corded Ware culture ceramics (the Bronze Age) were also found on the site.
