Summary (English)

  • During 2012, the excavations at the Terentian monument were concentrated on its northern side. The excavation of the cistern is also completed and the complete floor plan of one of the room located near the monument was also discovered. The structure, phase IV-V, has a quadrilateral plan, oriented east-west, with overall dimensions of 16.80 × 5.80 m and divided into three rooms according to the longitudinal axis. A staircase built with stone blocks and pilasters, a technique also used in the episcopal complex and other houses of the V century AD. The three rooms on the ground floor communicate with the outside space with separate doors. During this year, only the upper layer, consisting of stones, a column base, a marble statue, tiles, and fragments of pithos and ceramics was removed. A cistern was discovered in trench 23 and was found filled in its entire volume, where three different layers were distinguished, with a maximum depth of up to 3.80 m. The material found during the excavation of the consisted fragments of ceramic, tiles, bones, etc. The cistern, was excavated entirely. In relation with the monument of Terentianus, only three trenches were excavated, numbered 24, 17 and 18. In trench 24, three different layers were distinguished and the material recovered consisted of tile fragments of different periods, pottery, glass vessel fragments, bone, a bronze coin of Apollonia, a bronze ring etc. In trench 17, four layers had been excavated in previous years, and the last two were finished this year. The material found during the excavation consists of amphora fragments, fragments of thin-walled vessels, a scroll-type candelabrum with the figure of eros, and a brass wire earring with glass beads. While in the last trench, the only layer founded contained few fragments of ceramic dated from the end of the 1st century BC to the first half of the 1st century AD
