Summary (English)
CONBUSTICA (Krassimira Luka – bularchaeo@gmail.com) The explorations continued along the eastern fortification wall. Three levels were documented in Sondage 3. The earliest level was a clay layer situated below the foundation of the fortification wall. A stratum thick up to 20 cm was discovered above the clay layer, containing charcoal, ash, wattle-and-daub from walls with timber posts plastered with clay up to 10 cm thick, weaponry, a fragment from glass vessel and a terracotta lamp. The upper level was a leveling layer thick up to 40 cm, dated by four coins of Constantius II, Julian and Valens, the latest one minted in AD 364 – 375. The top level consisted of debris from the fortification wall, up to 50 cm thick, dated by coins of the Theodosian Dynasty. Timber buildings were constructed in the area in front of the fortification wall. Sherds from c. 40 vessels were documented from the Early Roman stratum, including terra sigillata and red-gloss pottery.
