Summary (English)
AQUAE CALIDAE (Dimcho Momchilov – karnobat.muzey@mail.bg, Miroslav Klasnakov) The excavations continued in the northwestern periphery of the fortress. The fortification wall was 2.40 m wide, built of uneven stones and ashlars bonded with mud and reused from earlier Roman and Early Byzantine structures. The finds included scyphates and sherds of the 11th – 13th centuries. Over 60 coins of the AD 1200 – 1270 that were found indicated the earlier possible period when the fortification wall was built. The tower and part of the western fortification wall were excavated. The fortification tower was 5.55 – 5.60 m in diameter, with walls up to 2.10 m wide, built of uneven stones bonded with mortar. The tower was preserved up to 1.40 m in height and remains from fire were discovered inside. The western fortification wall was 2.40 m wide, built of ashlars bonded with mortar and with a core structure of uneven stones. It was preserved over 1.50 m in height. A place for stirring mortar was discovered to the north of the fortification tower. Roman and Late Antique sherds and coins were found.
