Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF CHOKOBA (Lyuben Leshtakov – l_leschtakow@abv.bg) The explorations of the Late Neolithic stratum in the Eastern Sector continued. Pits, 1.20 – 2.20 m in diameter and 20 – 60 cm in depth, containing sherds and animal bones, were discovered. A dug out from a house, 5.70 m by 3.40/2.70 m in size, was explored and postholes, 20 – 40 cm in diameter, were discovered. The finds included sherds, animal bones and burned fragmentary wattle-and-daub. The exploration of a Late Bronze Age stratum began in trenches А–С40, А–С41 and А42–43. A hearth, 1.40 m in diameter, was discovered. The finds included burned pieces of clay, sherds and charcoal. Postholes, 23 – 24 cm in diameter, were explored. Sherds, animal bones, burned pieces of clay, a stone slingshot ball and a fragment from a pottery kiln. Two layers of burned fragmentary plaster and sherds were documented in trenches В–С41. Three piles of sherds, animal bones and burned pieces of clay were discovered in trenches А40–42. A house was explored in trenches С40–39 and a stone slingshot ball was found. Late Bronze Age pits, containing sherds and fragments from clay structures, were explored in trenches А40, Е43, F31, F40, I43 and I44. Late Iron Age pits were discovered in trenches А43–45 and В43–45. Pit No. 1 contained a loom weight, sheds from imported Greek black-gloss pottery, a small ceramic cup, a ceramic strainer and a terracotta fragment from an andiron. Pit No. 2 contained a fragment from Corinthian roof-tile and Thracian sherds.
