Summary (English)

  • Research (2006-2008)

During the summer months of these years surveys were carried out in the Celtiberian town of Valdeherrera using data collection and geophysical instruments. The work focused on exploring the areas in which two of the town gates had been identified (the South Gate and the East Gate) and also on finding out more about the large interior surfaces of the site. The area surveyed by magnetic and electric methods comprised 22% of the site’s total surface area. Surveying the area of the gates had two main aims: to confirm their existence and to discover their architecture in order to define their function.

Surveys were also carried out on various plots within the settlement. Numerous architectural structures (buildings, streets, houses, craft and industrial establishments) have been identified dating back to the 2nd and 1st centuries BC.

In the northern part of the promontory, portable objects datable to the Late Bronze Age have been recovered along with what may be a ditch blocked off due to the remodelling or probable expansion of the town.
