Summary (English)

  • Two oval structures (8.50 × 6m and 2.60 × 1.30m) have been uncovered and identified as the bottom of a hut and an area of occupational activity. They are situated a metre apart and are filled by blackish soil containing a high concentration of baked clay, charcoal, animal bones and fragments of impasto dating to the early phases of the middle Bronze Age. Both have been disturbed by a series of narrow modern drainage channels.
The larger structure has two hearths, one towards its perimeter and the other placed in the centre. An animal (probably bovine ) had been placed in a prone position beside the central hearth; part of the still articulated pelvis and spinal column were found. Next to these remains lay fragments of stoves with removable cooking plates, including a fragment of stove top with a circular air hole and a large quantity of pottery. This included carinated bowls, two of which intact, handles with axe-shaped projections some with a central perforation, fragments of jars and situle (buckets) some with incised bands of zigzag decoration. The lower levels also contained baked clay, stove fragments and charcoal, bones and two intact carinated bowls associated with charcoal, bones and fragments of large storeage vessels. The artifacts found show only slight traces of wear, some being almost intact. This fact, together with the presence of several small carinated bowls placed around the animal skeleton, all of the same size and with the handles deliberately removed, suggests that the deposit is of a ritual nature.
The smaller depression contained material of a similar nature and was perhaps an area used for activities in association with the larger structure. (Maria Luisa Nava)
