Summary (English)

  • The site has a total surface area of some 115 square meters, of which 5.40 square meters have been excavated; it was the only space available after the excavation carried out by the machine in order to empty the site. This project anticipated the discovery of archaeological remains next to a possible burial causing the stoppage of works and the beginning of an archaeological intervention.

The aexcavation was reduced to a small drilling carried out next to the facade. Although initially it seemed that zone was unaffected site preparation works, we soon noted that, in the presumed untouched zone, a trench had already been excavated; its depth reached the geological strata, breaking a great part of the stratigraphy.

However, in spite of the small untouched space, we have gathered several data which have enabled an understanding of the historic occupation of the site. On the geological level, at the very least a mud wall was built, probably after the Christian conquest, as indicated by the shards found in the archaeological fillers.

After the settlement was abandoned, the area was filled in during modern times, without finding the structures attached to this historic period. Later, in the contemporary period, we can confirm two phases of occupation, one formed by a signinum paviment with masonry and plaster walls, and the latter corresponding to the last destroyed residence. We have not been able to determine the presence of the burial site.
