ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF BRODILOVO (Deyan Dichev – dejan.dichev@abv.bg) In Sector West, a L-like drain for rain water was explored in front of the entrance of the tower. It was c. 7.50 m long, 50 – 70 cm wide and 25 – 30 cm deep. Sherds, fragmentary building ceramics and carbonized grain were found in the drain. In Sector North, debris of fragmentary wattle-and-daub with burned vetch, wheat and millet was discovered in Trench E8. The floor of the burned building was explored beneath, paved with trampled stones and clay. Dolia were discovered, containing carbonized grain and flour of millet; four querns, sherds from bowls and dishes, terracotta loom weights, terracotta spindle whorls and iron nails were found. A clay eschara was discovered, c. 10 cm high and 35 cm by 38 cm in size, with geometric decoration. A bronze coin of 100 – 50 BC was found. In Sector East, debris of burned fragmentary wattle-and-daub and burned wooden posts were discovered in Trenches E 10–11 and D 10–11. Burned wheat and millet were found. Five storage structures were explored, 1.65 m by 1.60 m in size, preserved up to 25 cm in height, constructed of wooden beams plastered with clay. Three of the structures contained carbonized grain: two of them were filled with wheat and one with millet. One of the structures contained a ceramic jug and a terracotta lamp. The Thracian residence existed during 125 – 75 BC and then it was burned down. During the mid 1st century BC, part of the residence was reoccupied.
