    Summary (English)

    • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF BRODILOVO (Deyan Dichev – dejan.dichev@abv.bg) The site covered an area of 0.1 ha located on a hill. Pieces from iron slag and sherds were found on the surface of the terrain. Sondage No. 1 was carried out in the western part of the site. Debris was documented, c. 12 m in diameter and c. 1.50 m high, apparently from a tower. Part of the inner side of the wall of the tower was discovered, built in rubble masonry. A clay eschara, 65 cm by 65 cm in size and 10 cm in height, was explored. The finds included over 40 fragmentary ceramic vessels, an iron rhomphaia, a pick-axe, iron tools, iron bars prepared for production of objects and carbonized grain. Sondage No. 2 was carried out in the northern part of the site. A sector of the northern fortification wall of the site was discovered, built in rubble-masonry, 2.40 m wide and preserved up to 1.10 m in height. A machaira, c. 25 fragmentary ceramic vessels in situ, iron nails and carbonized grain were discovered close to the wall. Sondage No. 3 was carried out in the southeastern corner of the site. Sherds were found. The site was a Thracian residence protected by fortification wall with a tower, dated to the second half of the 2nd century BC. The residence was burned at the end of the 2nd century BC.
