Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF BRODILOVO (Deyan Dichev – dejan.dichev@abv.bg) Part of the eastern fortification wall, 1.10 m wide, was explored in the Eastern Sector. Part of the northern fortification wall, 2.40 m wide and built in rubble masonry, was explored in the Northern Sector. In the Western Sector, the exploration of the fortification tower began. The tower measured 5.15 m by 3.35 m, with walls 1.50 m wide, built in rubble masonry, and had an entrance on the eastern side. A hearth was discovered, probably belonging to a forge. A layer of ash and charcoal, c. 1 cm thick, was explored above the floor of the tower and traces from fire were documented on the inner sides of the walls. The finds included sherds, semi-prepared iron objects, slag, iron nails, three coin hoards and single coins: tetradrachms of Maroneia, Odessos, Mesambria, Athens and the Thracian King Mostis, bronze coins of the Thracian kings Sadalas I and Kotys II. One of the hoards included two tetradrachms, two bronze coins, two silver bracelets and a silver earring. The Thracian tyrsis was built during 125 – 100 BC and was destroyed during the 70s BC, probably during the Roman military campaign in the region.
