Summary (English)

  • TEMPLUM IOVIS (Todor Marvakov – tmarvakov@abv.bg, Konstantin Gospodinov) The explorations of the Early Byzantine thermae continued. Drain 1 was explored to the north of Room 1, running beneath the floor of the hypocaust of Room 2. The drain was built of ashlars bonded with mortar, covered with stone slabs, 80 cm in depth and 40 cm in width. The finds from the drain included 134 coins, belt buckles, earrings, finger-rings, glass beads, terracotta lamps and sherds. Drain 2 was discovered to the north of Room 2, running beneath the floor of Room 3. The drain was 1.10 m in depth and 50 cm in width, built of ashlars bonded with mortar, covered with stone slabs. The hypocaust was explored in the northern half of Room 2. Eight pilae built of bricks, three terracotta tubular pilae and three stone pilae were discovered. Judging from the finds, the thermae dated to AD 450 – 600.
