Summary (English)
GRADISHTETO FORTRESS (Krasimir Velkov – dakras@abv.bg) The explorations of the building, 12/13 m long, continued. Its walls were 1.20 m wide, built of roughly-cut stones bonded with mortar and with incorporated wooden beams. Part of the building was constructed over leveled debris of stones from a destroyed structure of the 5th – 6th centuries AD. The inner fortification wall adjoined the southeastern corner of the building. The wall was 2.20 m wide, built of well-cut stones bonded with mortar and with incorporated wooden beams, preserved up to 2 m in height. The inner fortification wall protected the citadel situated on the top of the fortress. Sherds of the end of the 12th – 14th centuries, including from sgraffito pottery, iron nails and an iron belt buckle were found during the explorations of the fortification wall. The explorations of Structure No. 1 continued. It measured 4.50 m by 3.50 m and was situated to the southeast of the building. Remains from an earlier structure were discovered beneath, with walls 60 cm wide, built of roughly-cut stones bonded with mortar.
