This investigation regards the necropolis known as the “Buca delle Fate” and aims to record the chamber tombs brought to light by illegal digging. Several trenches were dug in order to clarify the situation. During the second excavation campaign (2004) investigations were undertaken on the natural terrace which projects towards the sea, at the northernmost branch of the slope, where two “pozzetti” containing proto-Villanovan cremation burials were found in the past. Several more “pozzetti”, unfortunately not well preserved, were identified and excavated along with two hellenistic “a fossa” burials containing intact tomb groups. (Andrea Camilli)
