Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF VASKOVO (Stanislav Iliev – utah1912@abv.bg) Sherds were found in Sector 1. Two dolia of the 2nd – 4th century AD dug out into the bedrock were discovered and two other pits for dolia were documented. Iron nails and clamps were found, indicating the existence of a ramshackle building that accommodated the dolia. Postholes from a house, 9.50 m by 4.50 m in size, were discovered in Sector 3. A pit was explored, 1.10 m in diameter and 1.20 m in depth, containing Thracian sherds, a spindle whorl and animal bones. A hearth was discovered in the central part of the house. The finds from the house dated to the Early Iron Age and included Thracian pottery, two stamps for pottery decoration, loom weights, spindle whorls, two iron fibulae of the end of the 10th – 9th centuries BC, two anthropomorphic terracotta figurines, bone awls, small iron knives, whetstones and a quern. A Thracian settlement of the Early Iron Age existed in Sector 3. Several groups of dolmens of the Early Iron Age are situated nearby.
