Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF ORIZARE (Zhivko Uzunov – jivko_uzunov@abv.bg) There were no structures on the southern and southwestern slopes of the hill; only sherds and three bronze coins of Mesambria were found. A burned building constructed from wattle-and-daub was documented on the northwestern slope of the hill. The finds included sherds from Thracian and imported Greek pottery, including vessels with West Slope decoration and amphorae mostly from Kos, a fragment from terracotta mould for production of Megarian bowls and iron slag. So far nine bronze coins of Mesambria of 250 – 50 BC are discovered on the site. Part of a building was discovered in the foot of the slope. Its walls were 82 cm wide, preserved up to 60 cm in height and built of uneven and cut stones bonded with clay. Two square rooms, 3.80 m by 3.80 m in size, were documented. The inner sides of their walls were plastered with mortar. The roof was covered with tegulae and imbrices that collapsed on the floor. Traces of fire were documented. Two coins of the 13th century and sherds from sgraffito pottery were found.
