PRESLAV (Stela Doncheva – donchevastela@yahoo.com) Explorations of Administrative Building – South were carried out. A stratumof the 12th – 14th centuries, 0.30 – 1.20 m thick, was explored, containing sherds, fragments from bricks, pieces of charcoal, coins of the 12th century (billon scyphates of John II Komnenos, Manuel I Komnenos and Andronikos I Komnenos), coins from the 1220s to the 1270s (coins of the Bulgarian King Konstantin Tih, Latin and Bulgarian imitative coins – mainly Latin imitative coins of the Type A minted in Constantinople), coins of the 14th century (coins of the Bulgarian King Ivan Alexander and an imitation of a Venetian grosso). Part of a wall built in rubble masonry was discovered. Eight pits were explored, two of them containing two bronze crosses, a lead seal of AD 950 – 975 belonging to Theodoros of Misteia who was Strategos and Protospatharios, two segments and a base of colums. A stratum of the 11th century, 30 – 40 cm thick, was explored beneath the Late Mediaeval stratum. It contained sherds, pieces of charcoal and slag, anonymous Byzantine folles of the 11th century of the Class A2, B, D and E, a follis of Constantine X Doukas. A stratum of the end of the 9th – 10th centuries, 30 – 40 cm thick, was explored beneath and a mortar pad of a stone structure was discovered.
