Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXCAVATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF DZHERMAN (Andrei Aladzhov – alajov@gmail.com, Elena Vasileva) A craftsmen’s quarter with an area of 0.5 ha was explored, situated near to a settlement. Midden and storage pits were discovered and over 40 hearths with flat earthen baking dishes were explored. Burned wooden boards from timber shelters constructed over storage pits and hearths with flat earthen baking dishes were discovered. A watermill, 5.50 m by 4.10 m in size, was explored on the river bank. Its walls were constructed of ashlars. A millstone was found and a number of timber shelters constructed over storage pits and hearths with flat earthen baking dishes were discovered close to the watermill. A house was explored, constructed of roughly-cut stones bonded with mud. The building had two occupation phases. After the house was destroyed, iron from ore was extracted over its remains, judging from the large number of pieces of slag and patches of charcoal. The finds from the excavations included coins and sherds of the 16th – first half of the 17th centuries.
