Summary (English)
The northern base of the ruined church of San Bartolomeo in the locality of Sipicciano di Galluccio (Caserta) incorporates a section of III style lava stone polygonal walling, with anathyrosis. The wall was recorded to a length of 18.90 m. and it stands to a height of 1.35 m above present ground level. The construction technique appears particularly sophisticated and unusual for the context in which it stands, as do the materials used. Situated a short distance from a Roman commercial port on the river Garigliano and from the Via Latina in the stretch between “Casinum” and “Teanum Sidicinum”, it may belong to a rural building of Republican date, but no excavations have been carried out to date.
