Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR GURKOVO (Maria Kamisheva – maria.ivanowa@gmail.com) A cold water pool, a frigidarium, a tepidarium, a laconicum and an apodyterium were discovered in the baths. The laconicum was situated to the west of the caldarium and measured 4.35 m by 3.77 m. It had wall heating. The floor had a hypocaust. The terracotta tubes serving as pilae were placed on bricks. The praefurnium was situated to the west of the laconicum and measured 4.36 m by 3.01 m. Its walls were constructed of boulders bonded with mortar, while the corners were built of bricks. A room, 1.82 m by 2.30 m in size, was discovered in front of the apodyterium, on its western side. The walls of the room were constructed of roughly-cut stones bonded with mortar. A yard was documented, situated to the north and to the west of the baths. Probably, there was a colonnade supporting a shelter along the entire eastern side of the northern room. The baths probably belonged to a villa rustica and functioned until the 4th – 5th century AD.
