Summary (English)
CARIA (Boyan Ivanov – b_totev@abv.bg, Dobri Dobrev, Olga Pelevina) The explorations continued in the northern sector of the Early Byzantine fortress near the circular tower. Sherds of the Hellenistic period, including from amphorae and black-gloss pottery, were found in front of the northern fortification wall. A storage area with dolia dug into the ground was situated there. Early Byzantine, Late Antique and Hellenistic sherds were found in the circular tower. A platform adjoining the northwestern part of the tower was discovered. Its outer face was built of ashlars and the interior was filled with uneven stones bonded with mortar. Several dolia were discovered in the southern part of the circular tower, dug into a layer with Hellenistic material. Three dolia were discovered, dug along the northern end of the western fortification wall. The Early Byzantine fortress was built first and subsequently, the storage area with dolia dug into the ground was set up.
