Summary (English)
PHILIPPOPOLIS (Zdravka Korkutova – zdravka_p@abv.bg) The foundations of five pillars that supported the arches of the eastern aqueduct were discovered. Pillars Nos. 1 – 3 measured 2 m by 2 m and were built of cut stones bonded with mortar. Pillar No. 4 measured 3.75 m by 3.75 m, built of cut stones bonded with mortar. Its upper part was built in opus mixtum. Pillar No. 5 was built of roughly-cut stones and bricks bonded with mortar and measured 1.65 m by 1.09 m. The finds from the excavations included bricks, sherds of the Roman and Early Byzantine periods and four coins of the 3rd – 4th centuries AD.
