Summary (English)
PHILIPPOPOLIS (Maya Martinova – maya_martinova@abv.bg) A sector of cardo maximus was discovered, c. 10 m long and adjoining the eastern side of the forum. The street was paved with large syenite slabs. Late Antique and Mediaeval walls were discovered on its eastern and western sides, partly built over the pavement. A monumental wall was discovered in front of the entrance towards the southern portico of the odeon (bouleuterion). Probably, it belonged to the foundation of the portico that represented the façade of the odeon (bouleuterion) towards cardo maximus. The building was probably well preserved during the Middle Ages. A fragment from a marble pedestal of a statue was discovered there, belonging to some important citizen of Philippopolis who was honored with proedria. It dated to AD 175 – 200.
