Summary (English)
AUGUSTA TRAIANA (Petar Kalchev – kalchevp@abv.bg, Atanas Atanasov) Archaeological excavations were carried out in the northwestern part of Augusta Traiana. Various structures were explored in seven different sectors. A partly destroyed burial pit was excavated, covered with ridge-roofed tegulae. The skeleton was partly preserved. A pit with sherds of the Roman period was discovered and a destroyed burial pit was excavated close to it. The body was laid supine with its head to the east. The dead was an adult. A drain was documented in the same sector, built of roughly-cut stones bonded with mortar and covered with stone slabs. Seven partly destroyed graves without grave goods were excavated. Skeletal remains from two children were found in Grave No. 5. A drain was discovered, built of roughly-cut stones plastered with hydraulic mortar and covered with stone slabs. A sector of the northern fortification wall and a sector of the inner western fortification wall of Augusta Traiana were excavated. Two walls of the Roman period were discovered, built of roughly-cut stones bonded with mortar.
