Summary (English)
In April and May 2002 a rescue excavation was undertaken on a part of the Enotrian necropolis of Guardia Perticara, the site of which falls within a development area where the construction of new housing has been underway for several years.
A further 21 burials were recovered, all were inhumations covered by stones of mid-large dimensions with the bodies placed in a supine position. The burials date to between the 8th to 5th century B.C., as does the rest of the necropolis. The male burials are characterized by the presence of bronze razors, the female burials by the usual set of personal ornaments in bronze, iron and amber. Amongst the female burials of the 8th century B.C. is a tomb containing several bronze and iron ornaments (earrings, pendants, bronze “spectacle” fibulae, armlets). There are few burials dating to the 6th century B.C., they contained the usual assemblage of local pottery. Amongst the 5th century tombs was one that, despite having been robbed during 18th century excavations, produced a Red-figure krater, a Red-figure amphora showing Athena Promachos and a bronze grater within a plain buff ware basin.
