Summary (English)
ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF ORLOVO (Galina Grozdanova – galya_std@yahoo.com, Doichin Grozdanov) The site was situated on the left bank of Kozletska River. Storage and midden pits were discovered, containing sherds, animal bones, carbonized whole grain wheat, rye and peas. Some pits were covered with light timber shelters. Houses and storage buildings were discovered, 9 – 12 sq. m in size. Grave No. 1 was discovered with a Christian burial of a man, 20 – 25 years old. The pottery from the excavations included pots, jugs, pitchers, bowls, dishes and lids, including glazed and sgraffito pottery, and dated to the 10th – 12th centuries. Remains from a structure with sherds of the 7th – 8th centuries AD were excavated. The finds from the excavations included coins, a Byzantine lead seal, small knives, arrowheads and terracotta spindle whorls.
