Summary (English)

  • ARCHAEOLOGICAL EXPLORATIONS NEAR THE VILLAGE OF ORLITSA (Yavor Boyadziev – yavordb@abv.bg, Kamen Boyadziev) The Late Chalcolithic settlement was situated at the southern foot of a low hill, at the confluence of Orlishka and Lozengradska Rivers. The excavations were carried out in an area to the south of Buildings 5 and 6, explored in 2004. A stratum was documented, 10 – 15 cm thick and containing flint artifacts and Late Chalcolithic sherds. Piles of uneven stones, slabs that originated from the foundations of the walls of Building 6 and two querns were discovered to the south of Building 6. The settlement did not continue east of Building 6. The finds from the excavations included 16 flint artifacts (flakes, splinters and a scraper), a stone pestle, a terracotta spindle whorl and a handle of a terracotta spoon.
